04/04 - ALOHA II Preview Release
In collaboration with the folks at Reload, the
ALOHA team has released a preview version of ALOHA II.
ALOHA II incorporates many of the features from ALOHA, but also includes publication to ECL-compliant
repositories, customizable forms, controlled vocabularies, and IMS content packaging.
02/03 - ALOHA Lite shown in Ottawa
Responding to customer demand, the ALOHA team has made available a lite version of the full
ALOHA metadata markup, indexing and publishing tool. This version presents the user with a
simple form-based interface using the most popular fields from the IMS metadata schema.
As with the more advanced version, users can markup any media dragged onto the program and
save or publish their educational objects to CAREO with a single click.
ALOHA Lite is now available for download.
DC-2002: Metadata for e-Communities: Supporting Diversity and Convergence
The CAREO/ALOHA working group will be presenting a paper entitled Building Digital
Books with Dublin Core and IMS Content Packaging at DC 2002 in Florence, Italy
during the month of October. This is a working example of how the ALOHA metadata
markup tool and the CAREO web portal can be adapted for different uses. See the conference
web site for more info.

THIS WEEK "IN THE NMC SPOTLIGHT"
Over the past two years, the University of Calgary has been working with a number
of partners to build a Canadian Learning Objects Repository as part of
BELLE, a project that is exploring the critical aspects of building object
repositories, with the development of a prototype educational object
repository as its key objective. Among Calgary's contributions to the
project has been the development of a new tool for metatagging and
inter-repository communications called ALOHA which makes extensive use of an
xml-rpc communications layer. To learn more, point your browser to
